Christine Wu: 2nd Prize, Violin, Cat.C | 2015


19 year-old Christine Wu, from Plano, Texas, is currently enrolled in the bachelor’s program at the Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of world-renowned musician, Jaime Laredo. She began her studies at age three with Paul Landefeld and later continued under the tutelage of Jan Mark Sloman. In addition to violin, she studied piano for nine years with Dr. Annie Lin and has experience as a collaborative pianist.

Wu has been named the grand prize winner in the Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition, Juanita Miller Concerto Competition, and Dallas Symphonic Festival, and has participated in international competitions such as the Lennox International Competition and the Schmidbauer International Competition. She made her solo debut in 2012 with the SMU Meadows Symphony and was invited to perform at the 7th annual Charles Barr Memorial Concert in 2013. Recently, she performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, and the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. Wu’s orchestral experiences include serving as concertmaster in the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra as well as the Texas All-State Symphony Orchestra. At CIM, she has been a participant in the Advanced Piano Trio Program and received guidance from Sharon Robinson, Anita Pontremoli, and Kathryn Brown. She is also an avid performer and chamber musician in the community at events and venues ranging from weddings to nursing homes and hospitals. In Cleveland, she is a volunteer instructor at Joyful Noise, a non-profit performing arts school that provides free instrumental lessons and instruments, among other things, to students aged 4-18 who cannot otherwise afford lessons.

Ms. Wu’s summer activities have included the Meadowmount School of Music where she has been a scholarship student and recipient of the Starling Foundation Scholarship, the Brian Lewis Young Artist Program as one of twelve young artists, The Institute for Strings, and the Colorado Suzuki Institute. She also had the privilege to perform in Carnegie Hall as a part of the New York String Orchestra Seminar in 2013. Furthermore, she has performed for distinguished artists including Sergiu Luca, James Ehnes, Ida Kavafian, Ani Kavafian, Joseph Silverstein, and Charles Castleman, Stephanie Chase, and Adele Anthony.
