Sophie Deng, 10, from Stillwater Oklahoma, began playing cello at age 4. Sophie is the cello First Place winner at Oklahoma City Orchestra League Keith Competition (Grade 8 and under) in 2015 and 2016. She won American Protégé Piano and Strings Competition in 2015. In 2016, she won Second Place in American Protégé Concerto Competition. Sophie was the state winner of MTNA Composition Competition elementary division in both 2015 and 2016. Her cello and piano compositions have won Award of Excellence in 2014 and 2015 at the national PTA Reflections Program. In 2015 and 2016, she played twice at the Winner’s Recitals at Carnegie Hall. In 2015, she was admitted into the Advanced Program at Chicago Suzuki Institute and played at the Solo Recital. Sophie was chosen to perform at the Honors Recital 3 years in a row from 2012 to 2014 at DFW WOW Suzuki Institute. A student of Dr. Meredith Blecha-Wells, Sophie is currently a member of the Oklahoma State University String Academy.
