Ivaylo Vassilev was born in a non-musical family and started playing a toy-piano on his own at the age of 4. When he was 6, he started as a student of prof. Emilia Kaneva in the National School of Music in Sofia.

He has an impressive collection of prizes already. Since 2015 he has attended many competitions and has been awarded at all of them, though usually being the youngest participant there. Below is the list of his awards in descending hronological order:

- I prize – global online “Great Composers Competition” series 2017, section “The Music of 19th Century“, age group II
- Participant (10 participants are invited in each age group after a tough preliminary audition) in the 4-th International Festival-competition ""Astana Piano Passion 2017"", Astana, Kazakhstan - under the patronage of Denis Matsuev
- I prize – 5-th National competition „Way to Fame“ and the special prize for the best Russian piece performance from Russian Cultural Centre (Sofia – 2017)
- II prize - 4-th Cesar Franck International Piano Competition (Brussels – 2016)
- Laureate in ""Children Laureates"" – part of """"Piano Extravaganza"""" festival - with Lyudmil Angelov (Sofia - 2016)
- Winner - 16-th ""Münchner Klavierpodium"" and 6 (all but one) special prizes: Virtuoso, Beautiful Piano Tone, Scarlatti, Steinway-Haus, Gourary Academie, Chance Festival (Munich – 2016)
- III prize, age under 11 - 12-th International Competition ""Young Virtuosos"" (Sofia – 2016)
- Laureat – 1-st Stage4Kids Festival (Hamburg – 2016 г.)
- II prize - 48-th International competition ""Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte"" (Usti-nad-Labem – 2015 г.)
- I prize - 2-nd International competition ""New Pianists"", Russian Cultural Centre (Sofia – 2015 г.)
