Hannah Novak, a native of Wheaton, Illinois, is currently in her junior year at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music in Wheaton, IL, studying to receive a double major in double bass performance and music with elective studies in business. She has studied the double bass privately under Lyric Opera bassist Andrew Anderson for the past four years, and previously studied under the instruction of Virginia Dixon for seven years. This past summer of 2017, Hannah attended the Brevard Music Center Institute in Brevard, North Carolina where she participated in, and won, the Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition performing the first movement of the Koussevitzky bass concerto with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra. Furthermore, in the fall of 2017 Hannah was awarded the Ben Heppner prize as the winner of the Wheaton College Concerto Competition playing the first and second movements of the Koussevitzky concerto. Along with her work as a soloist, Hannah is also an avid orchestral freelance musician in the Chicago area where she has been used as a substitute player for the Lyric Opera Orchestra; she also plays regularly with the Camerata Chicago Orchestra. Hannah plans to go on to study music performance at the graduate level and pursue a career in performance.
