Ryan Chen | 2nd Prize | Strings | 3rd Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Ryan Chen (age 15) lives in Tucson, Arizona. He began studying classical guitar at the age of 6. In 2014, at the age of 12, Ryan performed in David Russell’s Honorary Doctoral Degree Convocation at the University of Arizona. He placed first, in the youth division, at the 2014 Tucson Flamenco Festival. In 2016, Ryan was a prize winner at the Guitar Foundation of America International Youth Competition. He also played in concert with Ivan Rijos, performed in Tucson Guitar Society’s “Sunday in the Garden” spring concert series, and placed first at the Casa Vicente Guitar Competition. In 2017 Ryan performed at Centennial Hall, at the University of Arizona, for an audience of over 2,000 people. He also was selected as one of only 5 musicians statewide to perform as a soloist in the opening concert of the AMEA All-State Festival of Performance. In addition, he was a guest soloist in the Arizona Symphonic Winds, “Music in the Park”, and the Tucson Pops Orchestra, “Music Under the Stars”, concert series. Most recently, Ryan performed in “Trilogy: Award Winning Guitarists”, a concert at DesertView Performing Arts Center. Ryan studies annually in master classes with renown classical guitarists, David Russell and Sergio & Odair Assad. He also has studied in master classes with Judicael Perroy, Jeremy Jouve, Pavel Steidel, and others. Ryan is a student of Professor Tom Patterson, Director of the Bolton Classical Guitar Studies Program at the University of Arizona.
