The Arcturus Trio is part of the Young Chamber Musicians of the San Francisco Bay Area coached by Susan Bates and other renowned musicians in the area.
Cellist, Jacob Reed, 17, is a student of Eric Sung at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and also regularly studies with Clive Greensmith at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. Jacob is the Associate Principal cellist with the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. Recently Jacob won the 2018 Prometheus Young Artist Concerto Competition and is a Semi-Finalist in the 2019 National Mondavi Young Artist Competition.
Pianist Kevin Yang, 16, is a junior at Aragon High School. He began learning piano at age 5 and has studied with Professor Sharon Mann at the San Francisco Conservatory for the past 3 years. Kevin was a finalist in the 2017 CYS Concerto Competition, and tied for 2nd place in the Pacific Musical Society Competition earlier this year. This past summer, he attended the Aspen Music Festival & School, where he studied with professors Yoheved Kaplinsky and Julian Martin. Kevin is also an avid chamber musician, having participated in programs such as the Crowden Chamber Workshop and the Chamber Music Program at Aspen. He has played in master classes for distinguished artists such as Bonnie Hampton, Jon Nakamatsu, and Donald and Vivian Weilerstein.
Violinist, Ajay Mallya, age 15, is a student of Zhao Wei of the San Francisco Conservatory. He has won competitions such as the United States Open Music Competition, Enkor International, MTAC VOCE in Palo Alto, American Protégé, CMEA State Festival, and was honorable mention at the Palo Alto Philharmonic Concerto competition. Ajay was invited to perform a recital at the National Center for Performing Arts in India by the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation, and attended the Aaron Rosand Intensive Music program at Summit Music Festival where he learnt in the private studios of Maestro Rosand, and Victor Danchenko of the Royal Conservatory. In 2016, he performed as one of the Concertmasters and soloists with the Honors Performance Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, Stern Auditorium. Ajay attended the California Summer Music in 2016 and 2015 and Meadowmount School of Music in 2018 where he learnt from Sally Thomas of Juilliard and Kikuei Ikeda of the Tokyo String Quartet
