Katherine Guo | 2nd Prize | Strings | 4th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Katherine Guo is a senior at Mission San Jose High School. She began playing the cello at nine years old and currently studies with Jihee Kim. Recently, she won first prize at the 2018 US International Music Competition and placed second at the 2018 US Open Music Competition. Katherine has also performed at Carnegie Hall thrice as a result of placing first in the American Protege Concerto Competition and American Fine Arts Festival Concerto Competition. She played with California Youth Symphony for five years, spending two years with the Senior Symphony. At her school, Katherine participates in the music outreach club, which regularly performs at retirement and assisted-living homes.

Outside of music, Katherine is on her school’s nationally recognized speech and debate team, having led her team as a captain and Vice President for 3 years. She hopes to pursue international relations in college while still pursuing her passion for music through collegiate orchestras and chamber ensembles.
