Quartet Lucciola | 2nd Prize | Chamber Music | 6th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Quartet Lucciola is a group from Midwest Young Artists Conservatory in Illinois coached by Allan Dennis and Robert Bassill. Quartet Lucciola has performed in masterclasses with the Cavani Quartet, Mathias Tacke from Vermeer Quartet, and the Avalon Quartet.

Trudie Childs is 18 years old and a senior at St. Charles East High School. She has been studying the cello since age 10 and is currently a private student of Larry Glazier (Tenured Member, Grant Park Symphony Orchestra). Trudie spent 7 years as a member of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra (EYSO) and its chamber music institute and is a two-time winner of EYSO’s Young Artist Concerto Competition. She is currently a member of the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and intensive chamber music program where she studies, performs and competes as a member of the Lucciola String Quartet. An ILMEA participant at the district level (District 9) since 6th grade, Trudie has also performed with the All-State Honors Orchestra at the IMEC conference in Peoria and has been selected to attend All-State in January 2020. She is a section leader in her high school’s Chamber Orchestra, and enjoys singing and performing with her sisters as The Catalpa Trio. Trudie is pursuing a career in cello performance.

Liam Diethrich is currently a 12th grader at Highland Park High School. He has been playing violin since he was five, and composing since he was nine. Liam also plays clarinet and saxophone in his school’s jazz band and wind ensemble. Liam was the 2015 MYA Walgreens National Concerto Competition overall and strings category winner in the junior division. He also received an honorable mention in 2014 and won the early music category of MYA Walgreens National Concerto Competition in 2019. In the area of composition, Liam was the winner of the 2017 and 2015 MYA Composition Competition, the winner of MTNA competition in Illinois, and an Illinois Music Educators Association Student Composition Contest winner in five categories in 2019. Liam was a winner in the Nafme Young Composers Competition in 2016 and had his piece performed at their conference in Grapevine, TX. In the area of composing for film, Liam won a Video Game Soundtrack Competition sponsored by the Urbana Pops Orchestra in 2016, and was the youngest finalist in the Ravel Association’s International Film Score Competition in 2016. Additionally, Liam has composed soundtracks to two short films. Liam has had his pieces performed by the Kankakee Symphony Orchestra, Interlochen Symphony Orchestra, Midwest Young Artists Conservatory’s Concert and Reading Orchestras, his High School’s Chamber Orchestra, and a few professional chamber groups.

Bella Kim, 17, is a junior at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois and studies viola with Desirée Ruhstrat. Bella is the principal violist in the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory’s symphony orchestra. Along with receiving honors in Society of American Musicians and Walgreens National competitions, she served as a co-principal violist at Curtis Institute Summerfest in 2019. Additionally, she was a part of the all-state honors orchestra at IMEC last year. She has performed in masterclasses with Roberto Díaz, Shmuel Ashkenasi, and Youming Chen from CSO.

Veronica Rokicki, 16, is a junior at John Hersey High School and currently studies with Almita Vamos and Davis King. Veronica is currently in Midwest Young Artists Symphony orchestra and additionally serves as associate concertmaster of the District 214 Honors orchestra and concertmaster of John Hersey High School Symphony orchestra. In her three years of the District 214 honors orchestra, Veronica is a two time finalist in the District 214 honors orchestra concerto competition. Veronica has also been a featured soloist with the Hersey High School symphony and chamber orchestras. In 2019, Veronica was selected for the ILMEA all-state honors orchestra at the IMEC conference in Peoria. Veronica will perform in the IMEC conference again in 2020.
