Sean Yu | GRAND PRIZE | Strings | 6th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Sean Yu is a 16 year-old cellist, who was accepted into the Juilliard School Pre-College division at the young age of 9 and has been studying with Minhye Clara Kim ever since. Sean won 4th prize at the 10th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Astana, Kazakhstan and performed as a soloist with the Eurasian Symphony Orchestra of KazNUA at the Kazakhstan Central Concert Hall at the age of 12. Selected to appear on National Public Radio’s “From the Top” with Host Christopher O’Riley, he performed at NEC’s Jordan Hall in 2016 and was also featured in a piano trio with acclaimed pianist Orli Shaham in 2020. Sean was also invited to Moscow under the Spivakov Foundation and performed at Bolshoi Theatre. Furthermore, Sean was a winner at the 2020 National YoungArts Competition and the 2020 MTNA(Music Teacher National Association) National Strings Competition. He was a semi-finalist of the Stulberg International String Competition in 2020 and a winner of Enkor Competition Chamber Music 6th Edition. Sean has also been featured as a soloist with the New York International Chamber Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, the Sinfonietta Nova Orchestra, the New York Chamber Players Orchestra, Camerata Orchestra, and St. Thomas Orchestra as result of winning numerous competitions. He is also scheduled to perform with the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra and the American Chamber Orchestra in 2021. At the age of 12, Sean was accepted into the Perlman Music Program, where he has since been spending 7 weeks every summer intensively studying chamber music, solo performance, and orchestral music under the tutelage of Itzhak Perlman, Merry Peckham, Areta Zhulla, Astrid Schween, and Zvi Plesser.
