Tyler Sheu | 3rd Prize | Winds & Percussion | 7th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

Tyler Sheu began percussion at the age of 5. He currently studies under Jacob Nissly, Principal Percussionist of the San Francisco Symphony, and previously studied under Prof. Galen Lemmon. Tyler is currently a student at Henry M. Gunn High School in Palo Alto, California, where he is the co-president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. He also made his Carnegie Hall debut with the Gunn HS Wind Ensemble in March 2020 at the New York Wind Band Festival, and he has attended the California All-State and Santa Clara County Honor Bands for 3 and 2 years, respectively. Tyler was a member of the U Music Education Foundation percussion and chamber ensembles for 10 years, where he competed and/or placed at the CA Percussive Arts Society competition, the Junior Bach Festival, and the US Open Music Competition. In the summer of 2018, he completed the International Marimba Academy in Arganil, Portugal, under the instruction of marimba virtuoso Ludwig Albert, and was a semi-finalist at the 2019 International Artist Competition hosted by Southern California Marimba. He was selected to play at the 2019 Junior Bach Festival, placed 2nd in both the Young Artist and Bach categories at the 2019 USIMC Music Competition, and placed 2nd in the 2019 Fall American Protege Music Talent Competition, which will culminate in a performance at Carnegie Hall. In the summer of 2020, he participated in the Juilliard Summer Percussion Masterclass Series.
