Oliver Andrew Chen | 3rd Prize | Violin | 8th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

 


Oliver Chen, age 14, started playing violin at the age of 6 and studied with Ms. Gayaneh Kumar at age 7. He participates in recitals and festivals held by MTAC Glendale branch and is the winner of Satori String Competition, Lansum International Music Festival, Southwestern Youth Music Festival and VOCE. He has performed at Carnegie Hall as the first prize winner of the American Fine Arts Festival in 2017. Oliver also won first place at the Southern California Junior Bach Festival in 2018. He was also selected as the Featured Artist for the Newhall school district for three consecutive years. In 2019, he was the first prize winner of the Glendale Branch Concerto Competition for both ensemble and solo categories and performed with the Glendale Orchestra under the baton of Jorge Luis Uzcategui. In the same year, Oliver was selected to be a member of the Los Angeles Youth Philharmonic and performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall. He was also chosen as the performer of the month. Oliver won first place for VOCE in 2020 branch level and third place for Enkor International Music Competition. In 2021, he won first place in VOCE competition at Branch level and second place for Pelican International Music Competition. He is a member of “Music Brings Us Together”, a volunteer group that brings music performances monthly to seniors. He is grateful that music has been his emotional companion during the pandemic. He wishes to continue sharing music with the community soon. He is a member of California Junior Scholarship Federation and Honor Roll for GPA 4.0. At leisure, he enjoys learning about airplanes and rockets. He wants to be a rocket scientist and find a solution for clean energy transportation.
