Theresa Katz | 3rd Prize | Violin | 8th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

 


Theresa (Tessie) Katz is a 19-year old violinist currently studying with Nicholas Kitchen at the New England Conservatory and Tufts University’s Dual Degree Program. Previously, Tessie studied with Hirono Oka of The Philadelphia Orchestra. Tessie made her debut with the Lower Merion Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mark Gigliotti in 2016, where she performed Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2. She has also performed as a student prize winner at the Kimmel Center, Weil Recital Hall and the Academy of Music Ballroom. She previously served as assistant concertmaster of the Youth Chamber Orchestra at Temple Music Prep’s Center for Gifted Young Musicians, where she received an honorable mention in their Concerto Competition. Tessie has participated in chamber ensembles at the New England Conservatory and Settlement Music School’s Advanced Study Chamber Music Program. She has also previously been a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and the Philadelphia Sinfonia Youth Orchestra. Summer music festivals she has attended include the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Heifetz International Music Institute, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and the Online Solo Strings Intensive. This summer, she will attend the Center Stage Strings Institute and the Keshet Eilon Festival.
