Ian Kim, age 16, is currently a junior at Saratoga High School. He has been actively playing the double bass for 7 years and studies under the guidance of Bruce Moyer.
Ian is currently the principal bass player of the Saratoga High School Symphony Orchestra and Saratoga Strings, with whom he went on a tour to various European countries, performing in prestigious halls such as the Musikverein. Besides from school, he participates in numerous ensembles and orchestras such as the KAMSA orchestra, Bello ensemble, MUSE ensemble, California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and has also performed as a guest musician for the Saratoga Symphony. As a freshman, Ian was able to achieve the title of principal player for the California All State Symphony High School Orchestra and has won both the Saratoga High School concerto competition and the chamber music competition as well as the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition.
Outside of performing, Ian enjoys helping the community through music. He has performed in multiple benefit concerts and charity organizations and has participated in the Tri-M club at the school. He also teaches students how to play the bass through the MESH program and has even gotten a student into the All State Orchestra. Besides music, Ian loves watching movies, playing volleyball, and traveling with friends and family.
