Cara Wang | 2nd Prize | Strings | 9th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


       Cara Wang, age 13, studies cello at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) Pre-College division under Amos Yang. She began cello lessons at age 4 with Alan Yang.  She has won various competitions, including First Place at KAMSA Competition, Second Place at the Pacific Musical Society and Foundation Competition, First Place at CalASTA Strings State Competition, Outstanding Gold Medalist at U.S. Open Music Competition (2022, 2023), Second Place at Houston International Music Competition, and First Place at American Protégé International Concerto Competition. 

     Cara made her solo concerto debut February of 2023 performing Lalo Cello Concerto with the Central Oregon Symphony. She has also performed the concerto with the Castro Valley Orchestra and Symphony Parnassus (as winner of the 2023 SFCM Pre-College Concerto Competition). Upcoming collaborations include a performance of the Elgar Concerto with Livermore-Amador Symphony in February as a winner of their Competition for Young Musicians and a performance in May with Prometheus Symphony Orchestra as co-winner of their Khuner Young Artist Competition. Previously, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Junior Bach Festival, and various community events. 

    Cara loves collaborating with others and was previously principal cellist of the SFCM Pre-College String Orchestra (2022-23) and a member of several chamber music groups. Currently, she is a member of the Young Chamber Musicians program and the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra (SFSYO). This past summer (2023), Cara studied with Hans Jorgen-Jensen at the Meadowmount School of Music.
