Ethan Chaves, 11, began taking violin lessons at the age of seven. Currently, he studies violin with Fudeko Takahashi at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, is a member of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras’ premiere senior orchestra, concertmaster of the NEC Prep String Chamber Orchestra, won first prize in the 2015 American Protégé Concerto Competition, and the Young Artist Competition in Worcester. Last summer, Ethan placed in his first international competition and attended the WCMS summer chamber music festival; where he discovered a passion for chamber music and it inspired him to form his own chamber music group. Ethan volunteers at his local music school, assisting and mentoring young students in string ensembles and he travels, with his cello playing sister, to nursing homes to entertain the residents. In addition to playing the violin, he loves math and robotics, plays piano, studies musical composition, and is currently writing his very first concerto for the violin.
