Hideto John Mori: 2nd Prize, Piano, Cat.C | 2015


Hideto John Mori, 17, is an aspiring pianist from Marietta, Georgia. He began studying piano at age five and is currently studying with Edith Schiff. John has distinguished himself by winning first place in the NDMTA Bach Competition, first place in the AMTA Romantic Competition, honorable mention in the MTNA state competition, masterclass in the GMTA 2013 and 2015 state auditions, recitalist in the Ruth Kern Concerto Competition, second place in the SOA Concerto Competition, first alternate in the GMTA Concerto Competition. He also won a scholarship from the Atlanta Music Club and used his winnings for summer studies. Last summer, he studied as a piano major in the Georgia Governor’s Honor Program.

John is a junior at Walton High School where he also plays cello in the orchestra, accompanies the school musical productions, and performs in the Aurelia Piano Trio. He regularly performs in the Atlanta Music Club Young Performers concerts and at retirement homes. John enjoys cross-country running, watching TED talks, and reading.
