Michelle Li is an 8th grader at Liberty MS in Centreville, Virginia. After two years of studying piano, she started playing violin at age 8. She is currently under the tutelage of Amy Beth Horman in Washington, D.C. Masters Roy Sonne, Jonathan Carney and Shirley Givens have also instructed her. Michelle served as the concertmasters of the Junior District XI Honors Orchestra and the Chantilly-Oakton Area Orchestra. She has recently been awarded the Director's Award for Orchestra from her school. Michelle has competed in events such as the Landon Symphonette Competition 2015(finalist and 3rd place winner), the Lions Bland Competition 2015(1st place in District 24), the Feuer Memorial String Competition 2015(finalist), American Protégé International Competition 2015(2nd place), the Asian American International Competition 2014(3rd place), Mid-Atlantic Solo Competition 2014(Alternate), Rockville Competition Piano and String 2013(1st place), MSMTA String Solo Festival 2013 (1st place), American Protégé International Competition 2012 (2nd place) and American Fine Arts Festival 2011(2nd place). In her free time, Michelle enjoys volunteering, and has performed in a benefit recital for FOOD & Friends, and for senior citizens at Woodlands Retirement Community and Ashby Ponds Retirement Home.
