Claire Cheng | 2nd Prize | Piano 2017 | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Claire Cheng is a rising senior at Irvington High School and studies piano with Katherine Lee. She has placed first in both 2015 and 2016 East Bay Piano Competitions, was chosen as second alternate in the 2015 MTAC Solo Competition, won second in the 2015 United States International Music Competition hosted by CMTANC, and placed first at the 2016 SF Chopin Competition for Young Pianists. She also won first place at the 2017 MiTV Solo Instrumental Competition, second at the 2017 Pacific Musical Society Instrumental Competition, and received awards at the 2017 Henry and Carol Zeiter Piano Competition and 2017 CAPMT Regional Competition. Claire has also performed in master classes with Dr. Hans Boepple and Dr. Sonia Leong. In addition to piano, Claire is also an avid flute player and has been accepted into both the All-Northern (NCBA) and All-State (CBDA) honor bands three times, making All-State Wind Symphony, the highest group, in 2017. She also won first place at a NCBA regional drum major solo competition in 2016 and will be the drum major of Irvington’s Marching Band in the fall. In her free time, Claire enjoys listening to music, reading, and watching Studio Ghibli and Studio Chizu films.
