Lia Melo, 16, has been playing viola and studying with Alice Neves for the past eight years at Vila Real Regional Music Conservatory.

She has played in master classes with well-established artists including Sophie Arbuckle, Isabel Villanueva, Danuta Grossmannová, Joana Pereira, Ryszard Wóycicki, and Jorge Alves.
This year Lia Melo has won a dozen awards from numerous national and international competitions, including Grand Prize Virtuoso in London (England), Salzburg and Vienna (Austria), the Rising Stars Grand Prix 2017 in Berlin, the New York Golden Classic Music Awards (USA), the 5th Contest City of Vigo of Violin, Viola and Cello (Spain), the IMKA - International Music Competition in Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina), the 1st International String Competition Artur Fernandes Fão (Portugal), among others.

She played as a soloist with Ensemble Symphony Orchestra (Max Bruch Concerto for viola and clarinet), with Vigo Superior Music Conservatory Orchestra, Spain (Cecil Forsyth viola Concerto), with “Camerata Atlântica” (Stamitz viola Concerto) and with Vila Real Music Conservatory String Orchestra (Telemann Concert for 2 violas).

She was selected as a finalist (Final round), auditioning for The European Union Youth Orchestra.

Lia Melo has held the position of concertmaster in multiple orchestras including the Symphony Orchestra Ensemble and the 1st Portuguese-German Youth Orchestra. She has also been a member of JOP (Youth Portuguese Orchestra).
