Music has been a part of twelve-year old Luka Coetzee’s life for as long as she can remember. Currently a student of the Honours Academy for Gifted Youth of Mount Royal University Conservatory, she began cello lessons with Christine Bootland at the age of one. Luka currently studies with renowned cellists John Kadz and Johanne Perron.

A winner of the 2016 Calgary Competition, Luka performed as soloist with the Calgary Civic Symphony. She also won first prize in the Canadian Music Competition National Finals in 2016 and was awarded a scholarship from the Canimex Group for her outstanding performance in the 11-14 yrs. strings category.

Equally talented on the piano, Luka started playing at age 3 and studies with Derek Chiu. She recently completed the grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music exam in both cello and piano, with First Class Honours. When not playing music, Luka enjoys dancing, swimming, and playing with her puppy, Lacie.
