Angela Gigi Tsang, age 14, is a freshman at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, CA. Angela began her musical journey with piano at age five, and she gave her first solo recital at age six. She currently studies piano with Ms. Dorothy Su. Angela won first place in the US Open Music Competition Showcase Category and CAPMT Honors Audition District II. As a first place winner of the American Protégé Concerto Competition, she was invited to perform in Carnegie Hall. She has received numerous awards from CAPMT Honors Audition State Competition, MTAC, San Francisco Chopin Competition for Young Artists, USOMC, US International Music Competition, Junior Bach Festival, Rabinowitch Competition, and Sylvia M. Ghiglieri Competition.
Besides piano, Angela is an avid chamber music and orchestra player. She plays piano and violin in the VCHS Chamber Strings Ensemble. She received awards in violin from CMEA, Golden State Youth Orchestra Solo Competition, Junior Bach Festival, and USIMC. Angela is the principal of the El Camino Youth Symphony – Senior Symphony 2nd Violin Section for the 2017-18 season. She was the co-concertmaster of the ECYS Sinfonietta Orchestra for the 2016-17 season. Angela was selected to perform in the CASMEC All-state Orchestra in both 2017 and 2018.
As an active member of the Bay Area Youth Music Society, Angela performs solo, chamber, and orchestra music biweekly at senior centers and has received the President’s Volunteer Service Award four years in a row. Besides school and music, Angela enjoys reading, hiking, traveling and playing tennis.
