KARINA TSENG is a sophomore at Carlmont High School and has studied piano with Steinway Artist Sujeeva Hapugalle for ten years. She received many first prizes at competitions such as the Pacific Musical Society Competition, Marilyn Mindell Competition, El Camino Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, US Open Music Competition, US New Star Competition, and has performed in Weill Carnegie Hall as a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival Competition. She has been given special top performer awards at the USOMC and US New Star Competitions, and in 2018, was awarded MTAC State Panel Honors. Additional awards include high placements at the MTAC Solo Competition, SF Chopin Competition, and placement as a finalist in the Mondavi Young Artists Competition. She has worked with artists such as Simon TrpĨeski, Rohan de Silva, the Horszowski Trio, the Henschel Quartet, the Morgenstern Trio, and Mack McCray. Karina is actively involved in supporting local musical communities such as the San Francisco Symphony Education Program and Kohl Mansion’s “Kohl for Kids” through her teacher’s “Musical Bridges” program. She was chosen as one of the 2014 MTAC San Mateo Scholarship Winners for leadership and community service. Currently, she is the pianist of the Fervida Trio (2018 Galante Prize Competition Winners) as a 2017-18 Young Chamber Musician, and will participate in the Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s 2018 Young Pianists Program this summer.
