Claire Metcalf | 2nd Prize | Violin | 6th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Claire is a 15 year old freshman at James B. Conant High School and started studying violin at the age of 4. She currently studies under the direction of Mrs. Betty Haag-Kuhnke and has participated in master classes with Vadim Gluzman, Ilya Kaler, Stephanie Jeong, Mauricio Fuks, Blair Milton, Jasmine Lin, among others.
As a violinist in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Magical Strings of Youth at the Betty Haag Academy, and the Midwest Philharmonic Orchestra, Claire has toured the U.S., Portugal, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria. In these countries, she has performed in prestigious concert venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Dome, Walt Disney Hall, Orchestra Hall in Symphony Center, the Rudolfinum (the Dvorak Hall), Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, among others.
She was selected as the recipient for the Annual Paul Vermel Young Artist Award, and will perform as a soloist with the Northwest Symphony Orchestra for their 2019/2020 season. She has won numerous awards in competitions including the Music Competition in Honor of Confucius, the Midwest Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Competition, the American Music Institute Violin Competition, the Sejong Cultural Society Competition, the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, and the DePaul University Concerto Festival for Young Musicians.
