Emily Hwang, 14, is a freshman at Gunn High School in Palo Alto, California. She studies with Dimitri Murrath in the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College Division, and is a member of Young Chamber Musicians directed by Susan Bates. Emily is the 1st place winner of the 2019 MTNA California Competition in Junior Strings, and a 2nd place winner of the 2019 ASTA San Francisco Solo Competition. She received 1st prize in 2017 United States International Music Competition, 2018 Korean American Music Supporters' Association, 2018 Bay Area Music Association, 2016 and 2017 Silicon Valley Music Competition, 2015 and 2016 Korea Times Music Competition, and 2016 Palo Alto Music Teachers' Scholarship. Emily performed as a soloist with the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra in 2017, in Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall in 2016, and was invited to play with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra at their 2018 Gala Concert. She served as principal violist in the 2019 All-State Junior High Orchestra, and enjoyed her summer in the 2019 Music@Menlo Koret Young Performers program. She has been performing in Nahnoom Benefit Concert for Cambodia Well Project since 2014, and joined the San Francisco division of Back to BACH Project, a program that introduces classical music to young children.
