Emma Su | 2nd Prize | Winds & Percussion | 6th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

Emma Su, a junior at Ridgewood High School, NJ, currently studies with Bart Feller at The Juilliard Pre-College. Emma started learning flute at age 10 when she battled a vision illness. Her unique life experience has helped shape her special and warm musicianship. During her stay in Taiwan to seek treatment, Emma earned numerous awards in national competitions and was the principal flutist of the Taipei Century Youth Symphony Orchestra. After returning to the States, Emma studied with Tara O’Connor and Wendy Stern. Emma has won the Vivo-International Music Competition, Great Composers Competitions, New York Flute Club Young Musicians Contest, Camerata Artists International Competition, and Young Artist Competition of the Spectrum Symphony of NY.

Emma has played in The Juilliard Precollege Symphony and Orchestra since 2017. As a chamber musician, Emma has played flute quartets and woodwind quintets/quartets/trios and was also invited to debut the World Premieres by Luna Lab Compositions at Merkin Concert Hall. In 2018, Emma was accepted into the Curtis Young Artist Summer Program as the youngest flutist. At Ridgewood High School, Emma is the principal flutist of the Wind Ensemble and mentors the Symphonic Band and the Concert Band. As President of the Tri-M Honor Music Society, Emma frequently leads musical service outreaches to nursing homes and hospitals. Emma plans to continue flute performance in college, join the orchestra, and further herself as a chamber/orchestral artist. As a proud Taiwanese-American, she hopes to introduce more people to Taiwanese culture through performing traditional Taiwanese music.
