Spencer Rubin is a student at The Juilliard School Pre-College Division where he studies with Elaine Douvas and Yousun Chung and is a Principal oboist of the Pre-College Orchestra. He made his Carnegie Hall solo debut in 2015 at the age of 10. During the summer of 2019, Spencer studied at the Aspen Music Festival as the youngest oboist ever to attend and he will return to Aspen again in the summer of 2020. As a 2020 YoungArts Finalist (the organization’s highest honor and only oboist), Spencer spent a week in Miami YoungArts Week where he participated in masterclasses and performed at the New World Center. Spencer has performed at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall and was invited to perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall. He has earned numerous first place and grand prize awards in international competitions including Vivo International Competition, North International Competition, American Protégé International Competition, Rondo Young Artist (Vanguard) Competition, American Fine Arts Festival, National Young Maestro Competition where he also won the best overall performance award, American Association for Development of the Gifted and Talented International Young Gifted Musicians Festival, Prima Volta Music Competition and Grand Prize Virtuoso International Competition. As a chamber musician, his woodwind quintet was a grand prize winner of the National League of Performing Arts Competition and he was a winner of both the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Young Musicians Program and Young Ensembles Program. Spencer is an alumnus of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Orchestra and the Interlochen Arts Camp and has participated in masterclasses with John Ferrillo and Jamie Roberts.
