Curtis Phill Hsu | GRAND PRIZE | Piano | 7th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Curtis was born on Dec 8, 2004 in Alabama, USA. At four he started learning piano and violin in Taipei, Taiwan. Afterwards he entered the music class for gifted children at Guangren Catholic Elementary School Taipei in 2011. Since 2014 Curtis has been a participant of summer academy in University Mozarteum Salzburg. In the year 2016, he was admitted to the piano pre-college of Mozarteum and he became one of Prof. Weber's students. Meanwhile, he is now studying in Musisches Gymnasium Salzburg for the fourth year.

In January 2017, Curtis got accepted to the group for highly talented youth (Hochbegabungsförderung) that is sponsored by Leopold Mozart Institute. Also he passed the pre-college entrance exam for violin in June. Since then he has been learning violin with Prof. Annelie Gahl. In November of the same year he gave a 20-minutes performance in Passau, Germany during European Youth Music Festival 2017 and received a favorable notice.

In March 2018, Curtis successfully made his overseas debut of piano recital at Conservatory Rinaldo Franci Siena, Italy, and gave another concert in May this year. In August 2018, Germany he won the third prize of the 16th Ettlingen International Competition for Young Pianists. In September he turned back to Germany and performed four pieces in Bad Honnef. Then he went to Chelyabinsk, Russia in October and joined two concerts at the end of the masterclass.

In addition to playing the instruments, Curtis is also interested in composition. For the first time he played a prelude of his own at school in May 2019.
