Harry Zhang, 16, is a gold medalist of the 2019 New York Schubert International Music Competition. Harry has been featured in the prestigious 36th Young Steinway Concert Series, and has performed on the stages of Ravinia’s Bennett Gordon Hall, Nichols Concert Hall, Northeastern University Recital Hall and Indiana University Recital Hall.
Harry has also won many other awards: 2020 Beethoven with a View Piano Competition (First Place), 2019 ISMTA Illinois State Music Teachers Association (Senior Division: Second Place), 2019 Carmel-Klavier International Piano Competition (Advanced Concerto Division: Honorable Mention), 2019 Chopin Youth Piano Competition at Milwaukee, WI (Fifth Place), 2019 Steinway Junior Piano Competition (Finalist), 2018 Granquist Music Competition (First Place), 2017 NSMTA Annual Piano Competition (Junior Division: First Place). He also received numerous gold medals from CAMTA, NSMTA and NWSMTA during 2015-2020.
Harry passionately performs at community concerts. He’s been performing monthly at the Merion Concert Series during 2019-2020. In the past, he also performed regularly at the Youth Noontime Concert Series and Frances Manors Senior Homes, both invited by the ARK Ensemble.
Harry was honored to participate in the piano master classes of Marta Aznavoorian of the Lincoln Trio, Dr. Robert Weirich of UMKC Conservatory, and Asaf Zohar, chair of piano department from Tel Aviv University, Israel.
Harry is an avid chamber musician, actively participating in chamber music programs at Music Institute of Chicago. He’s currently studying Piano Duo with Mr. Ralph Neiweem. The Duo will perform at the 2021 Young Piano Prodigy Concert Series held at Harold Washington Library in Chicago.
In addition to piano, Harry also plays the cello. His other interests are running, hiking and tennis.
Harry is a 2018-2019 merit-scholar at Music Institute of Chicago, where he studies with Dr. Soo Young Lee.
