Leo Nguyen is a Melbourne-based classical pianist who revels in breaking the rules in the hope of bringing a unique and exhilarating performance to his listeners.
Not only does he rebel with his long hair, but he also quit a commerce degree to study music and Japanese. He plays a wide range of repertoire and enjoys exploring repertoire from lesser-known composers. At heart, Leo is still a full-blown romantic and holds a not-so-secret penchant for Chopin.
Currently in his final year of a Bachelor of Arts/Music at Monash University, he has taken opprtunities to perform in a variety to settings ranging from community musical theatre to community choirs. Some of accolades include performing on live radio for 3MBS's 'The Talent' in 2017, Spivakovsky Prize finalist, semi-finalist in MYO's Virtuosity Concerto, and an Honourable Mention for Chopin at the Gallery. He is regularly selected to perform in Monash concerts as a soloist an in chamber groups and teaches and accompanies along side performance.
Leo has studied with a range of renowned pianists, including Tamara Smolyar, Hoang Pham, Anthony Halliday and Len Vorster.
When he isn't practising in the early hours of morning at Monash, he is playing real-time strategy PC games or binge watching netflix series.
