Justin Yi | 2nd Prize | Strings | 6th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

 


Justin Yi, a 11th-grade student at Poolesville High School, loves playing classical viola.  He was a member of MCYO(Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra) for 3 years, AYPO(American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra) for 6 years, and NLF(New Life Foundation) for 7 years.  Recently, he was accepted into NYO2 (National Youth Orchestra 2) for the summer of 2020.  He was the principal chair of AYPO for 3 years.  He has won many competitions such as 2014 WPAS 1st placed, 2015 American Protégé Young Musicians 3rd placed, 2015 Crescendo International Music Competition 1st placed, 2016 WPAS 1st placed, 2016 American Protégé Young Musician second-placed, 2016 YMIC International Competition 3rd placed, 2017 CAI Virtuoso Competition 1st placed, 2017 CAI Maestro Competition 1st placed, 2017 WPAS Competition 1st placed, 2017 YMIC International Competition 3rd placed, and 2018 Washington National Youth Music Competition 3rd placed.  He performed at Carnegie Hall 5 times.  Justin was Honorable Mention for the 2019 U.S. Army Orchestra Young Artist Competition.  In the summer of 2019, he participated in the JVNY (Jeunes Virtuoses de New York) Workshop music program which expanded his musical ability.  He traveled with JVNY to Portugal and played chamber music with the professional musicians who come from all over Europe.  Justin was accepted into the Honors Performance Series and plans to attend the program in 2020.   He was also accepted into the 2020 NYO2 Program.
