Ryan was born in Daegu, Korea on September 3, 2010 and moved to the United States 3 months later.
Growing up as a child, Ryan was influenced by his parents' love for piano, classic and pop music in general. He showed interest at an early age playing piano as a toy next to his dad.
At the age of 7, two years after starting piano lesson, Ryan started cello per his mother's recommendation. Within a few months of lessons into, Ryan showed talent and potential to grow with cello.
One year later since he started learning cello, Ryan for the first time participated in Daegu Strings Competition where he took first place. Now with more confidence, Ryan started participating at different venues and events, such as school festivals and local recitals.
At the age of 8, now one year after he started taking cello lessons, Ryan was honored with first place in strings in Korea Times Music Competition which took place in Los Angeles, California.
At the age of 9, Ryan had a chance to compete now at a much bigger event in Daegu Catholic University Music Competiton, which was national level competition in Korea, and he was honored with first place in strings (grouped from ages of 9 thru 12). He was the youngest participant and also as a winner. Soon after this event, Ryan also participated in Enkor Competition, where he was placed in 2nd place.
