Lauren Nelson | 3rd Prize | Winds & Percussion | 7th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


 Lauren Nelson is a second-year undergraduate student at the University of North Texas studying oboe performance and strings music education with a concentration in violin. In her first year of studies, she was a member of the acclaimed UNT Wind Symphony, an ensemble comprised mainly of graduate students. Lauren also played oboe and bass oboe with the UNT Concert Orchestra alongside her regular role as a violinist. Additionally, she was a member of a woodwind quartet with graduate and advanced undergraduate students as a part of UNT’s chamber music studies program. Recently, she was awarded second place in both the GCC Best Saint-Saëns Performance and The Art of Winds and Percussion competitions. Lauren hails from Birmingham, Alabama, where she was the principal oboist in the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra and a member of the charter ASYO Wind Octet. In Birmingham, she frequently worked as a contract musician, playing for weddings, services, and other events. She is currently studying under James Ryon, and her previous teachers include James Sullivan and Erica Howard.
