Lin Kai Zhang | 2nd Prize | Piano | 8th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Lin Kai Zhang began his musical training at the age of three, and currently studies with Matti Raekallio at the Juilliard School of Music’s pre-college division.

When he was five, he studied with Dr. Jin Zhang in Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and later with Dr. Eugene Skovorodnikov in Canada.

In 2010, Lin Kai was invited to perform at the Beijing Concert Hall. In the same year, he was invited by Dr. Guangren Zhou to perform in the recital of celebrating F. Chopin's 200th anniversary.

As a soloist, Lin Kai performed in venues such as Steinway Hall, Carnegie Hall, Benaroya Hall, Chan Centre, Gateway theatre, Beijing Concert Hall, etc. He performed with the Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet from St. Petersburg in March 2018. Lin Kai performed multiple concertos with local orchestra at Gateway theatre and Bell Centre, in 2016 and 2018. He performed multiple concertos with Grosseto Symphony Orchestra in Italy, during summer of 2018 and 2019. He also participated in International Masterclasses in Philadelphia, New York, Nancy, Grosseto and Weimar, taking classes with renowned professors such as Gary Graffman, Matti Raekallio, Ignat Solzhenitsyn, Susan Starr, Lydia Artymiw, Elanor Sokoloff, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Alexander Braginsky, Rena Shereshevskaya, etc.

Lin Kai’s achievements in international competitions include:

First Prize and Gold medal at the Seattle International Piano Competition in 2017

First prize at the Carmel Clavier International Piano competition in both Solo and Concerto categories

1st prize at Pacific International Piano Competition in 2014

3rd prize in Steinway International Piano Competition in Vancouver 2018 and 2019

Honourable Mention at 17th San Jose International Piano Competition, 2016
