James Zhou | 3rd Prize | Piano | 9th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


 James Zhou was born in China and raised in Southern California. He began to learn piano at the age of five and violin at nine. Since 2018, James has been taught piano and music composition by Ms. Su-Shing Chiu. During his 8-year piano learning journey, James has won numerous awards in state, national, and international piano competitions. James achieved both Branch Honors and State Honors in Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) 2020 Piano Level 8 and 2021 Piano Level 10. He passed grade 8 at the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) with distinction and attained an ARSM certificate. He also won Honor Recital Award at MTAC Improvisation. Recent accolades include first prizes at The Art of Piano in Great Composers International Music Competition, American Protégé International Music Talent Competition, and International Youth Music Competitions, and was also invited for future Recitals 2023 at Carnegie Hall in New York. Parallel to the piano, James is also an avid violinist. He’s a principal violinist of Irvine Classical Players Seraphim Symphony and performs a solo during the symphony’s summer Spain Concert Tour. Besides the accomplishments he’s dedicated to, James enjoys contributing his talent to the communities he beloved. He is a frequent guest performer at Irvine Yamaha Music Center and plays for a variety of Irvine City events.
