Matthew Chang is an eleventh grader at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles. He started playing violin at age 6 with Mr. Elmer Su. He is actively involved in his school orchestra, serving as its concertmaster. Outside of school, he is active with the Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra and is Assistant Concertmaster with the American Youth Symphony. He has won numerous prizes for his violin performances. He has performed as a violin soloist with the Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra, Palisades Symphony, Loma Linda University Church Orchestra, Bellflower Symphony, Beach Cities Symphony, and Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra. He was featured as a soloist at the Redlands Bowl and Carnegie Hall as a competition winner. He is a scholarship recipient of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Westside Committee and Music Teachers’ Association of California and was a member of NYO2 in 2019 and 2020 and NYO-USA in 2021.
