Michael Wang | 3rd Prize | Piano | 9th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

 


Michael Wang is a 16-year-old 10th grader at Davis Senior High School in Davis, California. He started playing piano at 6 years old with Marry Ann Harris in Wisconsin and currently studies with Dr. Natsuki Fukasawa in California. He also studied with Tian-hseih Shih and Sonia Leong. Michael won first place at the Greater Milwaukee Baroque Festival when he was 9 years old, which was his first participation in the music competitions. He continued to attend music festivals and awarded many times after he moved with family from Wisconsin to California, including winning the Memorial Scholarship in Sacramento Memorial Recital, honor certificate in 2021 Baroque Festival in Sacramento, fifth place in Division IV 2022 CAPMT Go for the Gold Music Competition, et al. In 2022, he won the first prize in the US New Star Music Competition Great Composers Competition. Michael is also a winner in Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) 2022 merit and panel finals, and is invited to play in MTAC 2022 State Convention in July, a four-day extravaganza with 8,000 attendees in Orange County, LA. Besides piano, Michael plays the violin in Sacramento Youth Symphony and Davis Senior high school Symphony Orchestra. In addition to music competitions and recitals, Michael actively participates charity program, the Lifting Spirit With Music (LSWM), which brings music to local communities, especially to seniors. During pandemic period, he and LAWM members made one-hour long online-concerts monthly to comfort those in needs in California’s senior communities and hospitals.
