Moshi Tang | GRAND PRIZE | Violin | 9th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

Moshi Tang, 17, fell in love with music before he could speak and started his first violin lesson at three and a half. Currently, he studies the violin with Joan Kwuon (Colburn), and Sonata Duo with Carolyn Warner (CIM). He also studies music theory, composition, and piano with Alissa Shuster. Moshi was a semifinalist in the triennial International Johansen Competition in 2022, and a winner of the 2022 National YoungArts Competition. He was also the 2021 state winner (Ohio) of the Music Teachers National Association Competitions. Moshi was the winner of numerous local Young Artist  Competitions such as the Concerto Competitions from the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra, the Suburban Symphony Orchestra, the Lakeland Civic Orchestra, the CIM Preparatory Program Concerto Showcase, and scholarship competitions from the Cleveland Pops, the Sigma, Alpha, Iota International Music Fraternity. In past years, Moshi has appeared as soloist with the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra, the Suburban Symphony Orchestra, the Euclid Symphony Orchestra, and the Lakeland Civic Orchestra, playing full concertos by Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, Saint-Saens, and Mendelssohn. He has performed in masterclasses of James Ehnes, Philip Setzer, Miriam Fried, Martin Beaver, and David Kim, among others. Moshi strives to become a full musician. He is an avid chamber music player, and has played the violin, viola, and piano in various chamber ensembles for more than eight years. He loves orchestra music and has been serving as concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra since he was 14.  Besides performing, he has also been composing music since he was 10. He was the state winner of 2021 Music Teachers National Association,  the 2nd prize winner of the Gonzaga Composition Competition, as well as the 1st prize winner of the junior division of Carl E. Baldassarre Composer-Performer Competition. In past summers, Moshi has attended many music festivals with scholarships, such as the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Heifetz International Music Institute, and the National Youth Orchestra 2. This summer, Moshi is excited join the National Youth Orchestra again and tour Europe under the baton of Daniel Harding and with soloist Alisa Weilerstein.
