Daniel Yim | GRAND PRIZE | Strings | 8th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

Daniel Yim, 16, is a junior at Bellarmine College Preparatory and has been studying the cello since age 9. Currently, he studies with Kyeong-hwa Kim. He has been a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra (SFSYO) since 2018 and has served as its principal cellist since 2021. In 2022, he was invited to play at the Junior Bach Festival and CASMEC All-State High School Symphony Orchestra. He also participated in NYO2 2022, where he served as principal cellist, and was chosen as an alternate for NYO-USA 2022 as well. Previously, he has also served as the principal cellist of the Bellarmine Chamber Orchestra from 2020 to 2022. He was also a part of the Ignatius Piano Trio and a member of the Apollo String Trio, with whom he won the United States International Music Competition in 2021.

Daniel also serves as co-president in Sky Ensemble, bringing music to senior living communities, and in Bravo Strings, where he teaches economically disadvantaged students about classical music. From 2021-2022, he served as Assistant Director of Programs at Art of the Heart, a nonprofit organization that distributes virtual concerts to the developmentally disabled, isolated pediatric patients & low-income adults.

In addition to the cello, Daniel was a prizewinner at numerous piano competitions, including the James Ramos International Competition, the Marilyn Mindell Piano Competition, the MTAC Piano Solo/Concerto Competition, the San Francisco Chopin Competition, the United States Open Music Competition, and the United States International Music Competition.

Aside from music, Daniel enjoys hiking, creative writing, and listening to music.
