William Wang | 2nd Prize | Winds & Percussion | 9th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition

William is a junior student enrolled in Palo Alto High School in California. He began his musical journey at the age of 6 and has played multiple instruments, such as the cello and marimba. Initially, he learned percussion from the UMusic Organization in Fremont, where he studies under professor Galen Lemmon. Currently, William is refining his marimba skills under Tammy Chen and developing his drumming techniques with Bryce Leafman. Additionally, he is learning the basics of jazz on the vibraphone with James Kassis at the Community Schools of Music and Arts in Mountain, California.

William’s remarkable talent on the marimba has earned him several awards, including the Junior Bach festival at the UC Berkeley from 2017 to 2020 for solo and chamber performances. He also secured the first position in the J.S Bach Award (2021) and the second position in the Young Artist Award and Chinese composer award (2020) at the USIMC. In 2023, William was selected as the first chair percussionist for California State Honor Band W8ind Ensemble. William enjoys playing video games, biking, and reading in his free time.
