Joie Kuo | GRAND PRIZE | Strings | 9th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Joie T. Kuo is a 16-year-old cellist from New Jersey. She studies with Clara Minhye Kim in the Juilliard School Pre-College.

She has won top prizes in various competitions including the International Grande Music Competition, the Bravura and Philadelphia International Music Festival Concerto Competitions, the Virtuoso International Music Awards, London International Music Competition, and the Vivo International Music Competition. Recently Joie was also named a 2024 National YoungArts Winner in classical music. She has performed at venues such as the Peter J. Sharp Theater, Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Paul Hall at the Juilliard School. 

Aside from solo performances, Joie is also actively involved in chamber and orchestral music at Juilliard. She has performed with Juilliard’s Pre-College Symphony and Pre-College Orchestra under the batons of Adam Glaser, Tito Munez, and Daniella Candillari. In addition, she is an avid chamber musician, having studied and performed in piano trios and string quartets coached by Jia Kim, David Geber, Melissa Reardon, and Antonio Lysy.

Joie spent the summers of 2022 and 2023 at the Heifetz International Music Institute’s senior division, studying with professors such as Amit Peled. Hans Jensen, and Hannah Roberts. She previously studied with David Geber, Sofia Nowik, and Marnie Kaller.
