Frederick Chen, age 10, began piano studies with his father, Xing Chen, at age 5. He passed RCM Piano exam Level 10 and was awarded the First-Class Honors with Distinction at age of 9. At age of 10, he won the First Place in the prestigious Pacific Musical Society Music Competition. He is currently a student of John McCarthy, Director Emeritus of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music pre-college program. Frederick has performed in Masterclass with Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Alexander Kobrin. Besides his devotion to piano, Frederick is also an elite young athlete, racing alpine ski in US Far West U12 League; and playing competitive soccer in the NorCal U11 Premier League. Off the slopes and the field, he immerses himself in world of books as an avid reader. Frederick is in fourth grade at Jose Maria Elementary School in Dublin California and enrolled in the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program.
