Lina Elwood, 14, is an 8th grader in Connecticut. She started playing the piano at age five and currently attends the New England Conservatory Preparatory School in Boston where she studies piano with Natalia Harlap and Alexander Korsantia, is a member of A. Ramon Rivera Senior Piano Seminar, and plays in a piano quintet in the chamber music program.
Lina has received many top prizes at national and international competitions. Most recently, Lina received Gold Medal at the Steinway Society Piano Competition in Massachusetts. She also received Second Prize and Best Performance of Chopin Work Award issued by the F. Chopin Society in Warsaw at the Chopin Avenue International Piano Competition, First Prize and Best Performance of Commissioned Work Award at the 44th Renee B. Fisher Piano Competition, Second Prize at the 10th Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, First Prize at the Schubert Club of Fairfield County Awards Competitions, and First Place at the Connecticut Bach Festival Competition, among others.
Lina has enjoyed performing at concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall and DiMenna Center in New York, Warsaw National Philharmonic Concert Hall and Pszczyna Castle in Poland, and Vilar Performing Arts Center in Colorado.
In addition to her solo performances, Lina has enjoyed playing concerto works with orchestras and chamber music groups, such as Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and KEYS Orchestra conducted by Maestro Jonathan Yates, and the Lublin Philharmonic in Poland. Lina is looking forward to playing with the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra in Poland this summer.
Lina is grateful to have learned from many great teachers, including Andrzej Jasinski, Amy Yang, Dmitri Shteinberg, Miyoko Lotto, Albert Lotto, Efrem Briskin, Paul Wirth, Jeffery Cohen, and Young Hyun Cho, among others.
In her free time, Lina enjoys writing fictional stories and poetry, reading, and singing. She also enjoys helping manage her school’s radio station.
