Rachel Won is a sixteen-year-old violinist and is currently a sophomore who attends Orange County School of the Arts. She is a Herbert Zipper Scholar at the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts, where she studies with Sam Fischer. Rachel's musical journey is rich with diverse performance experiences from solo performances with the San Fernando Valley Symphony orchestra and the Porta Caeli Chamber orchestra, performing as a member of the Kraft Quartet from the Mari and Edelman Chamber Honors Institute guided by Aimee Kreston, taking part as a semi-finalist of the Coltman National Chamber music competition, and various performances at summer programs. She has played in venues such as Zipper Hall, where she performed for Solo and Chamber in the McAllister Honors Recital, selected through a rigorous and competitive audition process. She was active in playing for various masterclasses, and playing in youth artist series concerts. Beyond the concert hall, Rachel is committed to enriching her community through musical outreaches at children's libraries, senior centers, playing in gigs, and teaching young inspiring students. Notably, she was also concertmaster of the Colburn String Ensemble, OCSA string orchestra, and the Idyllwild Summer Symphony Orchestra. Rachel has participated and received top honors in various competitions, such as receiving first prize for the VOCE competition, SFV concerto competition, Concordia Music Competition, first prize in the American String Teachers Association finals (she will be participating in state finals), and the Charleston International Music Competition, where she received first prize and the Most Exceptional Performer award. She has attended and performed in summer programs including the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Sounding Point Academy, Center Stage Strings, Idyllwild Arts, the Montecito International Music Festival, and Youth Orchestra Los Angeles. Rachel has always enjoyed being on stage performing for others. In addition to her violin performances, she has appeared in musicals and competed in speech and debate tournaments. Rachel loves exercising, trying different kinds of art, and being outside with nature. Her love for exploration extends beyond the realms of music, finding beauty in nature and the thrill of artistic expression.
