Joshua Chae | 2nd prize | Strings | 10th Edition | ENKOR Int'l Music Competition


Joshua Chae is a 16-year-old violist from California, currently studying at the Colburn School of Performing Arts under the guidance of Gina Coletti.  Joshua’s musical journey has taken him to several notable festivals, including the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute's Young Artist Orchestra, the Montecito International Music Festival, Idyllwild Music Festival, and the All-State California Orchestra. Throughout his studies, he has had the privilege of working with many inspiring teachers, musicians, and conductors including Paul Coletti, Moni Simenov, Dorothy Ro, Aimee Kreston, Jonathan Vinocour, Paul Haas, Mary Ferrillo, Karen Dreyfus, Nadia Sirota, Daniel Doña, Hye Jin Kim, Sakura Tsai, who has played a key role in shaping his musical growth.

He has also been fortunate to gain experience in a variety of leadership roles, serving as Principal Violist in the Colburn Sinfonietta, Assistant Principal in the Colburn Youth Orchestra, and Principal Violist in the California School of the Arts San Gabriel Valley Philharmonic & Chamber Orchestra and Arcadia High Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he is an active violist with the Honors Ed & Marie Edelman Chamber Music Institute, where he was honored with a Provost Scholarship.

Joshua finds great joy in collaborating with chamber musicians, where he values the deep connections and shared musical experiences that such settings provide. He is also passionate about music education, seeking to bring music closer to young children and raise awareness about its importance in their development.  With a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunities he has received, Joshua remains focused on continuing his musical studies, striving to grow both as a musician and as an advocate for music education.
