Lumi Kim, 14, is a violinist in San Jose, California. Her musical journey began with piano lessons at age five, and by seven, she had added the violin to her repertoire. She currently studies with Corina Santos and Elbert Tsai in the Pre-College Division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Since 2019, Lumi has been a dedicated member of the California Youth Symphony (CYS), where she most recently served as co-principal violinist of the Senior Orchestra. She was selected for the CASMEC Junior High All-State Orchestra in both 2023 and 2024, and in 2024, she was honored to serve as concertmaster of the Concert Orchestra. In recognition of her achievements, Lumi received first-place awards in the 2024 DVC/HNU Young Artist String Competition and the Silicon Valley Music Competition. A passionate chamber musician, she performs in a piano trio that has been invited to the 2025 EBMF Chamber Music Festival. She has also performed in a masterclass with violinist Stefan Jackiw. This summer, Lumi will join NYO2 (National Youth Orchestra 2) on tour to the Edinburgh International Festival and attend the Center Stage Strings program at the University of Michigan. Outside of music, Lumi enjoys spending time with friends, going to church fellowship nights, and sketching in her free time.
