This string quartet is made up of Abigail, Leo, Ellie, and Alexandra, four close friends who met through the Portland Youth Philharmonic. All four have played in the orchestra since they were young, rehearsing together multiple times a week over many years. Through countless rehearsals and performances, they grew not only as musicians but also as a tight-knit group with a shared musical language and deep trust in one another.
Two years ago, driven by their love for chamber music and a desire to make music more intimately together, they decided to form a quartet. Since then, they have explored a wide range of repertoire and continue to rehearse regularly, valuing the communication, collaboration, and joy that chamber music brings. The pieces submitted are works they have played most recently as an ensemble.
This year is especially meaningful for the group. Two members are applying to music conservatories. As they enter this final year playing together in the same city, the quartet is cherishing every rehearsal and performance. They hope to continue making music together for many years to come, staying connected through chamber music while exploring new repertoire and growing together, wherever their paths may lead.
