Riona Zhu, 17, is a violinist from California studying under Elbert Tsai at the Pre-College Division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She was selected as a winner of a YoungArts Award and various competitions, including Grand Prize at the Silicon Valley Music Competition and First Prize at the Nova Vista Competition, where she also performed as a soloist. Riona has also won prizes from the Palo Alto Philharmonic Concerto Movement Competition, Sonoma County Philharmonic Concerto Competition, USIMC, and the Diablo Symphony Young Artist Competition. As a collaborative artist, she is a member of both the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and Young Chamber Musicians. Her previous summers include participation in the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Center Stage Strings, and the Heifetz International Music Institute.
