A musician of varied interests, Alexander Ferkey has performed around the Midwest in a variety of musical genres ranging from jazz, orchestral, and chamber music to musical theater, rock, and metal.

As a native of central Wisconsin, Ferkey pursued undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with Professor David Story. As a member of the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Symphony Orchestra and UWSP Wind Ensemble, Ferkey has performed with acclaimed musicians such as percussionist Evelyn Glennie, David Taylor, and the late David Maslanka.

In 2017 Ferkey became the first bassist to win the Alice Peet Faust Concerto Competition, resulting in a performance of Giovanni Bottesini’s Concerto in B minor with the UWSP Symphony Orchstra. Alex Ferkey was also named a semi-finalist in the 2017 Classics Alive Young Artist Competition and in 2016 received an honorable mention in the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition.

As an electric bass player, Ferkey has performed in nearly a dozen musical theater productions and as a member of numerous hard rock and metal bands.

Alexander Ferkey is currently completing a masters degree in double bass performance at the University of Iowa under the tuition of professor Volkan Orhon.
