Nathaniel Yue, 10 has been studying cello with Vardan Gasparyan since 2013. Under the guidance of Mr. Gasparyan he has already had the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall, Musikverein in Vienna, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and Disney Concert Hall. In the summer of 2017, he attended Meadowmount to study with Jonathan Koh. For the past two summers, Nathaniel attended Montecito International Music Festival as a merit scholarship recipient, where he has studied with Robert deMaine and Ko Iwasaki, as well as played in a masterclass for Dennis Karmazyn. Additionally, Nathaniel studies piano with Nobuyo Nishizaka. He also enjoys being an ensemble member at the Colburn Ed and Mari Edelman Chamber Music Institute and Junior Chamber Musicians. This year he was invited to join the Huntington Middle School Chamber Orchestra.

Nathaniel’s performances have awarded him First-prize wins in numerous competitions including Southern California Junior Bach Festival: Complete Works Audition, Southwestern Youth Music Festival, California Association of Professional Music Teachers State Solo Concerto and Honors District Competition, Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, Classics Alive Young Artist Ensembles Audition, and American String Teachers Association Greater Los Angeles. In addition, he has also received Second-prize recognition in Los Angeles Violoncello Society Scholarship Audition and American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music.

Because of the generosity bestowed to him by teachers and mentors, Nathaniel is very enthusiastic about giving back to the community. He has participated in the 10-Hour Bach Marathon organized by Bach in the Subways Los Angeles to celebrate Bach’s music in public spaces. For over two years, he has appeared regularly at Evergreen Baptist Church Los Angeles and at the CAPS Alzheimer’s day center in Pasadena, CA. Surrounded by so much support, Nathaniel feels music continuously opens new doors, experiences, and connects him to some amazing, wonderful people. When he is not playing music, he enjoys competing in the First Lego League, playing basketball, doing outdoor activities and playing video games with family and friends.
