12-year-old Alyssa Xu is a 7th grader at Community Middle School in New Jersey. After getting inspired by her sister’s piano practice, she started taking piano lessons with Dr. Zhong Chen when she was about 6. After moving to New Jersey last year, Alyssa is studying piano under Professor Ingrid Clarfield. She has won a series of piano competitions and performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and Victoria theater of New Jersey. Some of the awards received include the First Prize at 2018 Elite International Music Competition, First Prize at 2017 Great Composers Competition Series "Art of Piano", Honorable Mention at II Future Stars International Piano Competition (2017), Honorable Mention at Princeton Steinway Competition, and Honorable Mention at 40th Renee B. Fisher Competition for Young Pianists (2017). In her free time, Alyssa likes to read, do math, and continue to gather stuffed animal penguins to add to her collection.
